PART 1/Setting goals

Pia
This is an exhibition, we have set up a camera, we have set up a structure so that we can investigate what is happening… so it feels safer. The structures for being here, and for a sort of objective, make it feel ok to take a closer look at what is happening.

Marina
Would you like to simply focus on your body as an organ that receives these impulses and has these perceptions? Is that what you would like to amplify? Or do you want ask something else?

Pia

The word "amplify" makes me immediately a little concerned. It feels like my sensitivity might worsen by amplification. I do not mean that I would not be allowed to sense what I sense, subsensorially or otherwise, but rather I would be interested in a way to SORT these experiences and to understand them in such a way that they would not become an attack on my body and system. Instead of an attack it would become a discussion - an exchange of information.

Marina
An exchange of information with your surroundings?

Pia
(Nods her head in agreement) It goes hand in hand with the theme from last session: that of “playing with the world, the world plays with you”

Marina
Yes. In my model of how to run a hypnosis session, thinking of the resulting recording at the end of our session, what would you like to hear in that recording? Is there something that you would like to achieve?

Pia
That is a great suggestion. Firstly, I would like to have the feeling of threat disappear

Marina
Yes. And that is a negative goal Do you have any positive goals?

Pia
This situation is not only negative. The artworks that I am making are about a process of externalising the subsensorial, but that is perhaps not the only thing that happens and should happen. Because I should not simply shut out my surroundings. I think it is more a question of being able to mediate back and forth in perhaps a harmonising way and if there is information that should be mediated to the collective, others, to humanity, then that should happen. This is also pertinent inwards, that is, if I should mediate something to the cells, viruses, mitochondrias, etc, in my body, for instance.
So, for example, if I breathe in air that contains a lot of various substances, ideally, I could say in the internal conversations of my body: “Hey, take in this stuff, and that, but kick out that and that…”  To be able to SORT things and to mediate, in such a way that it benefits everyone and everything. To not panic. And that this process would not take up so much energy. With the panic attacks, a lot of energy is consumed - the sorting out is too laborious. And then the system gets jammed.

Marina
If we are looking for a positive goal, it would perhaps mean that we would be looking for calm and trust? The situations that make you panic, what are they like?

Pia
Well, already the fact that in a certain environment I feel my skin burning is a panic attack: it is the panic attack of my skin. It does not happen in my mind, simply, but it is my skin that reacts. But I believe, that in the long run, and this is not only something subsensorial, but also connected to social and psychological processes, this situation exhausts me as a person. And this happens over a longer period of time, and may then appear in the form of melancholia or depression. Or simply lethargy, a flu, or immune deficiency in general.   This is not only about coping mechanisms, I am looking for ways to get beyond “coping”. I am looking for a deepened understanding of these processes, how they affect me and how can I affect them.

Marina
In its most optimum, in its most positive capacity, this is what is the idea of “you playing with the world and the world plays with you”. This is when you really are beyond just “coping”.

Pia
So, the positive goal is a deepened mediation and play with the world.

Marina
For our session, what is our question?

Pia
Maybe: What is it that wants to be mediated? This question is connected to the question of why have I become this sensitive?

Marina
So if we translate this question to address you, we could rephrase it as follows: what does the sensitivity mean to you? The sensitivity can be affecting within different areas of your life: professional, personal, art, … Does that sound ok?

Pia
Sounds a bit scary, but it sounds right.

Marina
What areas in your life should then be addressed? We can also limit this questioning to simply this particular room and the art context.

Pia
Yes, but I have a hunch that this will go beyond it. Art context is merely a parenthesis in this wider questioning. Art is a perfect way to mediate, but in terms of how eternity is situated in my view, art is only ONE way of mediating among many. But who knows. In any case, I think we limit ourselves too much if we stay in the art context.

Marina
Now I have enough information to run a hypnosis session with you, Pia.
