Ars Bioarctica Open Calls

Bioart Society is pleased to share three new opportunities at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki.

 

Deadline for all the calls June 17th, 2022.

The selected artists / artist groups are announced by the end of June 2022.

 

Open call #1: North Escaping - The Nordic-Baltic residency 

A one month-long residency to explore the current and approaching transformations in the North. The residencies call for the arts to work with transdisciplinary collaborations to develop new skills and knowledge. After the residency, the resident artist can share their project with the Finnish art scene and audiences in our SOLU Space in Helsinki.

Date: One month-long residency between October 2022 to December 2023

Applicants: Artists and artist groups based in the Nordic and Baltic countries, excluding Finland.

Funding: The residency is fully funded covering the costs of the travels, accommodation, artists fee, daily allowances, and a 3-day-long stay in Helsinki to develop and present the work. The artist fee is 2100€. The residency is supported by a grant from Kulturkontakt Nord.

Open call #2: The Ars Bioarctica 

A yearly open call at Kilpisjärvi Biological Station with an empahisis on the sub-Arctic environment and art&science collaboration.

Date: Proposed by the applicant (between 2022-23)

Applicants: Artists, scientists and interdisciplinary research teams from Finland and abroad.

The residencies are not financially supported, but we provide support in the form of a local mentor and invitation letter.

 

Open call #3: Kilpisjärvi Digital Science Trails 

The residency is part of the project “Pathways to Science and Research Stations' R&D&I services”, in which the Kilpisjärvi digital science trails are developed. The trails will cover scientific topics and have a strong focus on the impact of climate change on the biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, cryosphere, anthroposphere, and interactions between these. We are calling for one artist to produce a work in digital form which will be part of an online trail application without any physical intervention. 

Date: One month-long residency between 2022-23

Applicants: Professional artists from Finland and abroad.

Funding: The residency is fully funded covering the costs of the travels, accommodation, daily allowances, and material costs. The artist fee is 3000€. The residency is supported by the European Regional Development Fund via the Regional Council of Lapland.
