Biofriction 2019–2021

Biofriction exhibition on view in Lisbon, Portugal, until August 1
posted by Johanna Salmela on 16 June 2021

Since 2019, Bioart Society has been one of the four partners of Biofriction, a European collaboration project committed to supporting bioart and biohacking practices. An exhibition of the same name opens in the Ectopia space in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 16. The Biofriction exhibition introduces a variety of projects which were mostly developed during artistic residencies in the participating countries, under conditions influenced by contingency measures against Covid-19.

The exhibited artworks include a variety of biomaterials. Among the artists are Mayra Citlalli Rojo Gómez, who did a remote residency with us earlier this year, and Laura Beloff & Kira O’Reilly, whose TICK TALKs and TICK ACTs projects have been part of our programme this spring. The exhibition is curated by Marta de Menezes and Laura Benitez Valerio, and it is on view until August 1.
