Lotta Petronella will perform new pieces of writings and rituals Songs from the Wreck embodying hundreds of years of institutional violence and hauntings on the island of Seili. Calling in the seals, the ticks, the missing bodies, the rocks to guide us. Drawing from three herbariums collected and created on the island from 1678 to now. Lotta Petronella is a filmmaker and artist based living on an island in Finland. She is co-founder of CAA Contemporary Art Archipelago and has worked with and on islands for nearly two decades. She has been leading a multidisciplinary collaborative research project Själö Poeisis on the island of Seili for almost a decade including a feature length film, a radio essay, lecture performances, a choir work and an apothecary. She is currently writing a larger body of work related to Seili, titled Songs from the Wreck, a critical study of power structures through plants, especially the common plants – the weeds, the vulgaris. The work will be published and performed as a play in 2025.
